Local Spotlight: $63,000 Raised in One Room… and Why That Matters More Than You Think

Every Monday, I spotlight a business in Downtown New Port Richey.

But this week… I’m spotlighting something bigger.

I attended a luncheon for Marjorie’s Hope—and in one afternoon, that room raised $63,000.

Let that sink in for a second.

Not from one donor.
Not from one company.

From a room full of people who showed up for something that actually matters.

And after diving deeper into what they do… I realized this wasn’t just a fundraiser.

It was a reflection of how much impact one organization can have on an entire community.

Why I Love This Organization

What hit me most wasn’t just the number raised—it was why people were giving.

Because Marjorie’s Hope isn’t just a nonprofit you donate to and forget about.

It’s one you see working.

You feel it in the stories. You hear it in the room. You see it in the people they help.

They focus on something simple—but powerful:
giving kids the basics they need to feel confident, supported, and ready for life.

And when you really think about it… that’s everything.

Because confidence starts with the basics.

What They Actually Do (And Why It Matters)

This is where it gets deeper than most people realize.

Marjorie’s Hope isn’t just one program—they’ve built an entire ecosystem of support for students in Pasco County.

Here’s what that actually looks like:

• Back-to-School Support
They’ve provided thousands of backpacks filled with supplies—over 5,000 in a single year—so kids can walk into school prepared, not behind.

• Clothing & “Kids Closet” Programs
They help families access clothing and essentials, removing the stress of basic needs so kids can focus on school—not survival.

• Cinderella & Prince Charming Project
This one really stuck with me.
They provide **free prom and homecoming outfits—dresses, suits, shoes, everything—**so no student misses out on milestones because of money.

• Fresh Start Laptops
For foster students aging out of the system, they provide laptops—giving them a real shot at succeeding in college and beyond.

• Scholarships Based on Need (Not Just Grades)
They award scholarships that consider real-life challenges—not just GPA—recognizing effort, adversity, and growth.

When you zoom out… this isn’t charity.

This is strategic, thoughtful support at every stage of a child’s life.

Why Downtown NPR Needs This

We talk a lot about growth in Downtown New Port Richey.

New restaurants. New businesses. New development.

But the truth is—none of that matters if the people in our community are struggling behind the scenes.

Organizations like Marjorie’s Hope are what balance that growth.

They make sure that as Downtown New Port Richey grows… the people in it don’t get left behind.

They support students. They support families. They support teachers.

They create opportunity where there otherwise wouldn’t be any.

And after being in that room, watching people give, connect, and rally behind that mission…

I can tell you this firsthand:

This is what a real community looks like.
