Local Business Spotlight: The Funk — Leading With Heart in Tarpon Springs and Beyond

One of the most meaningful things about being rooted in Downtown New Port Richey is recognizing that community impact doesn’t stop at city limits. Some of the strongest leaders supporting our region aren’t just running businesses — they’re stepping up when people need help most. The Funk, located in Tarpon Springs, is one of those rare places.

While The Funk calls Tarpon Springs home, their reach extends far beyond their walls. Time and time again, they’ve shown up for surrounding neighborhoods, fellow small businesses, and families in crisis — including many connected to Downtown New Port Richey. That kind of leadership deserves recognition.

Why I Love This Place

It’s easy to say you support your community. It’s much harder to prove it — and The Funk has done exactly that.

In the aftermath of recent hurricanes, when families were displaced and resources were scarce, The Funk became a hub for action. They helped coordinate donated supplies, mobilized volunteers, and partnered with professionals to ensure families with young children and infants had access to critical resources.

They didn’t wait to see what would happen. They stepped in.

From hosting supply distribution to amplifying relief efforts for families affected by storm damage, The Funk showed what community care looks like in real time. One moment that stood out was seeing how quickly donations poured in — thousands of square feet of clothing, food, and supplies — all driven by trust in the people behind The Funk.

That kind of response doesn’t happen unless a business has already earned the community’s respect.

What They Offer

Outside of emergency response, The Funk operates as a creative and wellness-centered space designed to support self-expression and connection year-round.

They host hands-on creative workshops like skull terrariums, macramé, crystal projects, brooms, and other unique crafts that encourage people to slow down and create something meaningful.

Their expressive tattoo services are rooted in inclusivity and storytelling, offering a welcoming environment for both first-timers and seasoned collectors who want body art with intention.

They also provide HUSO Sound Therapy sessions, creating a calm, restorative experience for those seeking stress relief and nervous system regulation. These sessions are currently offered Mondays by appointment only.

In addition, their inclusive fitness classes welcome all body types and experience levels, reinforcing the idea that movement should be empowering — not intimidating.
